The River

A Tailwater Like No Other

Yakima River canyon landscape

The Yakima River is Washington State's only blue-ribbon trout fishery — a year-round tailwater that flows cold and clear through a dramatic basalt canyon east of the Cascades. Regulated flows from Keechelus Dam keep water temperatures ideal even in summer, producing one of the densest wild trout populations in the Pacific Northwest.

From the pale morning duns of early spring to the legendary October caddis hatch in fall, the Yakima offers something extraordinary in every season. We fish it every single day. We know where the fish hold when the wind picks up, which side of the canyon catches the afternoon shadow, and exactly when the PMD hatch will fire.

"Over 1,000 wild trout per mile. Year-round access. One of the most technical and rewarding dry fly fisheries in the American West."
